Las Trampas Regional Wilderness Park

Las Trampas Regional Wilderness is a 5,342-acre regional park located in Alameda and Contra Costa counties in Northern California. The nearest city is Danville, California. Las Trampas is Spanish for the traps, or the snares. The park belongs to the East Bay Regional Park District.

Las Trampas Regional Wilderness Park

The wilderness is characterized by rolling hills covered in grassland and chaparral. There are also some areas of oak woodland. There are several creeks that run through the park, including Alamo Creek, Danville Creek, and San Ramon Creek.


There are numerous hiking trails in the park, ranging from easy to difficult. There is also a trail that leads to the summit of Mt. Diablo. Las Trampas is a great place for picnicking, birdwatching, and wildflower viewing.


In addition to its natural features, Las Trampas is also home to a number of historical sites. These include the site of the Battle of Olompali, an 18th-century adobe house, and the Las Trampas Regional Wilderness Visitor Center.


Here are some of your favorite trails in Las Trampas Wilderness Regional Preserve:


Rocky Ridge Trail: This trail offers stunning views of Mt. Diablo and the surrounding area. It is a moderate hike of about 3 miles (4.8 km).


Alameda Creek Trail: This trail follows Alameda Creek through a canyon with rocky cliffs on either side. It is a moderate hike of about 5 miles (8 km).


Las Trampas Creek Trail: This trail follows Las Trampas Creek through a lush canyon with towering redwoods. It is an easy hike of about 2 miles (3.2 km).


Mt. Livermore Trail: This trail leads to the summit of Mt. Livermore, where there are sweeping views of the Bay Area. It is a moderate hike of about 4 miles (6.4 km).


Tips when visiting Las Trampas Regional Wilderness Park

When visiting Las Trampas Regional Wilderness Park, there are a few things to keep in mind in order to make the most of your experience


  • First, be sure to wear appropriate clothing and footwear for hiking or other activities you plan to do in the park.

  • Second, bring plenty of water and snacks with you, as there are no food or drink options available inside the park.

  • Finally, be prepared for changing weather conditions; the park is located in a region that can experience extreme heat or cold, so come prepared with layers and sunscreen or hats and gloves as needed.
